Research shows that the 'Montreal Protocol' has prevented the planet from an additional 0.85 degrees Celsius of warming

August 27, 2021 (GC): A new research conducted by Lancaster University, NASA, and others has shown that the so-called Montreal Protocol, an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances that are responsible for ozone depletion, has protected Earth’s vegetation and has prevented the planet from an additional 0.85 degrees Celsius of warming. The research also underscored that, without this treaty, which became effective as of 1989, ozone levels would be depleted globally by the mid-twentieth century.

In fact, in the last decade, around 1 million pangolins have been poached (which is equivalent to nearly 300 per day).
